She was born and raised in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. She was born in a conservative Bengali Hindu Kayastha family. She completed her schooling from D.B.M.S. English School in her hometown, Jamshedpur. She attended Junior College in Pune. The Government of Jharkhand honored her by issuing postcards and stamps featuring her photo. She made her bollywood debut with the film ‘Aashiq banaya aapne’.
