Jagjit Singh

Jagjit Singh was born in Sikh family on 8 Feb 1941. His father was Sardar Amar Singh Dhiman and his mother was Bachchan Kaur. Both of them inspired him for classical singing. They motivated him to sing religious chants. After he got matured, he was more focused on learning classical music. Jagit Singh had four sisters and two brothers who use to call him Jeet. He passed his graduation from the college DAV College, Jalandhar in arts stream. He passed his Post graduation from the Kurukshetra University, Haryana. His guru was Pandit Chaganlal Sharma. Later, he learnt Indian Classical Music from Ustad Jamaal Khan of Sainia Gharana for six years. He then moved to Mumbai in 1965 and there he became a playback singer. In his struggle days, he actually sang in marriages and various other concerts. Then he met Chitra with whom he got married after two years. Then both of them decided to make ghazals and expand the market. Things went on and Jagjit Singh turned out to be the best ghazal singer in the industry. Even he was recognized internationally.
