Sardar Chinnappa Reddy 2004
Telugu Nov 30, 2004 (India)
Story
MURDERS AND group fights are always associated with factionalism. Display of self-dignity and valour is part of the game. Set in Palnadu as backdrop, the structure of the theme is a bit akin to the famous `Palnanti Yuddham' (war of Palnadu) between cousins. B.V.Reddy plays this crucial role of Chinappa Reddy. Reddy, chairman of the state film Chamber of Commerce, is a part time actor and has been appearing in smaller roles now and then. But this film projects him as a major actor. He too reveals his histrionic skills, which are a bit theatrical owing to the dialogues. Kondaveedu is ridden with faction fights. Chinnappa Reddy and Kasi Reddy head rival factions with plenty of younger brothers on each side as their followers. Chinnappa Reddy is like that legendary Brahma Naidu of Palnadu. A devotee of Chennakesava, heis basically peace monger but his enemy Kasi Reddy (Kota Srinivasa Rao) forces him to wield sword to kill the latter's henchmen and then kill himself, before his enemy strikes. This drama opens with a college scene where Chinnappa Reddy's son Ashok is studyingHe has good friends in Surya (Saikiran) and Swathi (Seema). Surya is the son of an honest minister (Raghunatha Reddy). But his role is restricted only to those haughty scenes. Ashok and Swathi decide to go to Palnadu, one day. Ashok's mother (Kavita) is highly concerned about her son's safety. That is when the reference to the name of Kasi Reddy is made. A flashback follows, which is the main story of the film that narrates Chinnappa Reddy's story, till he is brutally attacked by Kasi Reddy's men. Realising he cannot escape this ruthless attack, he stabs himself to death. There is not much of drama in this part but for showing some political links. Elders begin to open their eyes after mayhem and make effort to put an end to these senseless faction fights. How this is achieved is narrated later, interestingly. There are plenty of characters in this drama. But those actors who draw our attention are B.V.Reddy in title role and Sakuntala as his rival. Sakuntala over-dramatises the role of elder sister of Kasi Reddy with a unbearably high pitched dialogue delivery, which is monotonous. The rest of all her men, including main villain Kasi Reddy, look dwarfed before her. On the other side except Chinnappa Reddy none come into prominence. Saikiran, Ashok and Swathi are not properly connected to the main theme of the film.
