Indranath, son of zamindar Somnath Mukherjee, lost his mother at an early age. His teacher Jatileswar Chatterjee showed him the way of truth, Jatileswar's wife Aparna gave his mother affection and Jatileswar's daughter Bani was his best friend. After the Indranath came to Calcutta for higher education in his father's attorney friend Ramapati Chatterjee's house. There Ramapati's wife Rama gave him mother's love their daughter Mili became Indra's play mate. After twelve years being first in the M.A. examination Indra brought Rama and Mili to his house. Incidentally Indra met Bani after twelve years. Indra could remember his childhood days Aparna and his teacher. Indra came to know that Aparna was no more, but his teacher Jatileswar was still living. He was living in a very wretched condition. But even in that condition Indra could find the seal of knowledge. Indra came back again. He didn't listen to his father. But his teacher and Bani lost in the crowd of Calcutta. Then started Indra's lonely journey. A day usually comes after night, as happiness comes after sorrow, like that Indra also could find Bani one day and they built a village on the ideology of his teacher, where people didn't hate people.
