Love Aaj Kal is a 2009 Indian Bollywood romance, drama film released on Jul 31, 2009. The film is directed by Imtiaz Ali, produced by Saif Ali Khan under banner named Eros International.

Jai (saif) and Meera (deepika) are a modern-day couple in London. They are very happy together but do not believe in tying each other down. So when life pulls them in different directions, they decide to go with the flow. "These Heer-Ranjha, Romeo-Juliet type janam janam ka saath type couples exist only in story books," Jai says. In the real life, they have to be practical.

Veer does not understand how Jai can treat matters of the heart without passion, like a financial transaction. Jai does not understand how Veer Singh could have been so naive and silly about Harleen in the days of his youth. But as both stories unfold, they realize that the process of relationship might be different in different eras, but the experience of being in love remains the same. LOVE AAJ KAL is a story of Love. Today’s love and love of sixties. There is Jai [Saif Ali Khan] and Meera [Deepika Padukone] who are modern-day couple settled in London. They are very happy together, but do not believe in marriage. One day they call it off when they realize that there is no meaning keep the relation on when there is no chance to live together.

There there is Veer singh of 1965. Veer Singh [Saif Ali Khan, later Rishi Kapoor] loves Harleen. He travels a thousand kilometers by train to have a glimpse of her face. And yet not speak a word with her.

Veer Singh meets Jai. For both the definition of love is different.

LOVE AAJ KAL travels multiple continents and different eras. Imtiaz Ali has potential to tell a good story and he did the same. Both Saif and Deepika come up with their career-best performances. Rishi Kapoor is top notch.

Love Aaj Kal takes a look at the how 'Love' has evolved over the years.The film essentially is about two sets of people. One set of people believe that what used to happen in the olden times in love relationships is very silly while the other set of people (the older generation) feels its not possible to deal with things so practically especially when it concerns matter of the heart. Both plots (Veer Singh's romance with Harleen many years back and Jai and Meera's relationship in the present) simultaneously reveal in the movie. Finally both stories end up believing in the same message that in any era, the routine of love may be different but the experience is the same.

Love Aaj Kal is all about how love was perceived back in the old days compared to how it is now. The story with Saif in the turban romancing Florence is the second part in the film where love is all about innocence. The third bit has Saif and Deepika playing non-committal lovers giving into their lust and desires.
