Story

Fight 1:1 is a 2011 Indian Bengali action, comedy, romance film released on Feb 11, 2011. The film is directed by Debaditya, produced by Saibal Chakraborty.

A film about two groups who are always at loggerheads with each other has been made into a gang film which the younger generation will definitely enjoy. It has romance, action and even comedy, basically a blend of everything. The two groups are the Rohit Group and the Julius Group. While the two groups fight it out among themselves, discipline is maintained by the very strict principal who deals with everyone with strict authority and force. People will be able to relate to characters from this film with characters they might have come across in their real life. Also the story takes a turn in many different directions as the film progresses.

The credits point out that Satabdi Roy is the brain behind the story and concept, apart from being the chief advisor for debutant director Debaditya's project. And the lady has interestingly tried to come up with a plot that has a youth connect. Now, now don't stretch your imagination too far and conclude that this will something on the lines of "RDB" or "3 Idiots". Remember as Rupam Islam's number rightly proclaims, "This is the fight, fight fight, this is the fight" and that too 1:1. Cliched as it might initially come across, there are two warring factions in St Samual (yes, that's how it's spelt) College. While 'Julius rules' along with his gang, 'Rohit rocks' with his team of loyalists. So, there are college fests, leg pulling and exams, where each of two leaders try to topple the other. But thanks to Tiyash, Julius group continues to excel in every competition. In an effort to win, Rohit, as per best friend Raka's suggestion, tries to woo Tiyash away from the Julius group because 'Rohit can impress any girl'. But there is a twist in the tale. Tired with the present state of affairs in college, the principal leaves and in comes Parbati Sanyal. A strict disciplinarian with a no-nonsense attitude, she sets down certain rules for the students. No bikes, sunglasses, mobiles, fashionable clothes and even free mixing between girls and boys in college. While students find her rules to be 'bhimruler hul' , Parbati Sanyal, makes sure her dictum is followed to the core. "Ami je college e jai, sekhane sudhu ektai naam shone jaye" , is what she abides by. Rack your brains and you will remember a line in "Maine Pyar Kiya" that said, "Ek ladka aur ek ladki kabhi dost nahi ban sakte" . And this is exactly what Parbati Sanyal is out to prove. But as the story progresses, it is proved how two friends might not essentially be lovers in just the same way as two friends might eventually discover love when a third party enters their relationship. The thin line that exists between love and friendship comes to the fore in this film. While the concept is interesting, what takes away in places is OTT acting and certain sequences and characters that could have been done away with. A bit of a crisp editing could have done the trick in that department. Debaditya, however, needs a pat for taking a chance with freshers in his first film as far as his main plot is concerned. Some of the new faces try hard to meet expectations but a few lag behind because all they do is flare their nostrils, clench their teeth, flex their muscles and twist their facial contours. A few of the characters look far too old for college kids. In these areas, a bit more attention to details would have helped. Keeping in mind the fact that the effort and the idea behind this film can be lauded, "Fight 1:1" deserves an audience, at least one.
