Story, Synopsis, Trivia, Dialogues for Chhoomantar (1956)
Baiju is the village idiot whose songs make the girls go crazy about him. This often lands him in trouble. The villagers regularly beat him up and bring him to his father's door. Finally the village panchayat decides to throw him out of the village. Baiju leaves the village singing all the way. He takes shelter near a palace and instantly falls in love with Princess Ratna(Anita Guha). The king's men beat him up and on the king's orders his men to throw Baiju into the river. Princess Ratna, who has also developed a liking for Baiju falls sick. Meanwhile, some fisherfolk fish out Baiju from the water and Savli(Shyama), a fisherwoman adopts him as her brother. Savli herself is in love with Manohar(Karan Diwan), a rich man's son. Baiju wants to marry Ratan and Savli, Manohar. Manohar's father agrees on the condition that Baiju and Savli earn Rs. 10lakhs in 3 months. Baiju and Savli set out and are hired by a drama company where they sing and dance and earn some paltry amount. There they come across the medallion bearing the words "CHOOMANTAR" following which they help in arresting a group of smugglers. This helps them achieve their goals and their respective lovers.
