Jurmana 1979

Jurmana is a 1979 Indian Bollywood drama film released on May 11, 1979. The film is directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, produced by Debesh Ghosh.

Inder Saxena, a builder (contractor) from Delhi with an attitude that money is the foremost thing in the world is sent by his maternal uncle to a small town Pratapgahd to supervise on a project's progress. A reluctant Inder comes to Pratapgarh after being persuaded by his uncle. There he meets his college mate Prakash (Vinod Mehra), his college professor Daya Shankar Sharma (Sri Ram Laggoo) & his daughter Rama (Rakhee). Womanizer Inder sets his eyes on Rama but Prakash, who secretly admires Rama tells Inder (Amitabh Bachchan) that she is the kind of girl who can't be lured with the power of money. But, Inder has the perception that women want only money bets Prakash that he will lure Rama with his money. Every trick of his fails but ultimately he publishes a book of her poems and gifts it to her. A surprised Rama is very delighted with this gestuse. One day Inder asks Rama to accompany him. Rama promises to go but has to lie to her father that she is going to see off Laila (Farida Jalal). When Daya Shankar finds the truth he & Prakash unexpectedly drop in Inder's house where they find Rama in Inder's bedroom. Anguished Dayashankar scorns Rama for lying. Rama leaves the house for ever and while heading to Delhi is robbed for which she has to get down form the train. Distressed Rama gets the help of station Master Nandalal (Asrani) who shelters Rama in his house, coincidentally the same trains meets with an accident. 24 people die in the mishap. Rama passes of as one of the dead from an unrecognizable damaged body. Assuming that to be Rama a letter is sent by the police to Daya Shankar about her death. Every one is shocked with the news. Inder who is feeling guilty for the incident believes that Rama is alive & continues to search for her. Rama, to forget her sorrows, takes up to learn singing & becomes a renowned singer. One day while singing on radio she is heard by Inder who finds her out & tells this to Prakash. Eventually all the misunderstadings & differences are settled down & Rama & Inder come together.

Indra Saxena (Amitabh Bachchan) was under the impression that his heart is in a secret pocket of his wallet. But when he comes into contact with Rama Sharma (Rakhee Gulzar) in a sleeping U.P. township he discovers that his heart was always at the right place. . Rama Sharma was a brilliant poetess but people around her were worshipping the grammer and the purity of the language. Therefore when Indra came to her with his smooth tongue she rejected the pooja of Prakash (Vinod Mehra), her childhood friend, for the earthly love of the other man. . And Indra Suxena was almost a professional in love: Prakash was no match to his effeciancy in the expression of love...but ultimately he becomes a victim of his own effeciancy. He discovers that he was not acting to hook Rama. He was genuinely in love with her. . Ramas father, Prof. Sharma (Dr. Shreeram Lagoo) is a man from the past era. He lives by his old convictions and his traditional concept of the purity of human relationship. .
